New In | Canon EOS Rebel T5

Sorry I haven't been around much this last week; I really needed to get my schedules in order and figure out how I want to progress this year. School started up again and work got very crazy so blogging was put on the back burner for a moment. I finally made a huge decision around Thursday and decided that I was going to purchase my first very own DSLR Camera. I've been truly and honestly thinking about this for the last two years now and I thought it was time to invest and treat myself. I think that after all the chaos in our lives we need something creative and whimsical to fall back on when the going gets tough. I'm not very artsy but I've always really loved photography and writing. I know my blog isn't much but it's a safe haven and it allows me to have somewhere to be creative and different.

After quite a lot of research and price justification I decided on the Canon EOS Rebel T5. This camera comes with a 18-55mm IS Lens and to be frank I'm still trying to figure it out. I am definitely not trained in using DSLR cameras and I'm really just learning the ropes but I think it's something that's truly exciting and will be fun to progress with. I wanted to ask any of you for tips and tricks and links to any helpful posts on DSLR cameras. I would absolutely love to hear how you went about learning how to take better photographs and what tools I should think about, etc. etc. I'm really excited to start producing better quality photos and love that I now have my own camera to document my life with. I'm carrying this baby with me just about anywhere because you never know when the right moment might present itself. Wish me luck on this new journey and please I'm open to any and all suggestions.

  2. Looking forward to even better photos from you! I think the best thing I did when I first got my DSLR was to sit down and truly understand the way focal length, aperture, ISO and shutter speed work together to affect how much light is allowed into the lens/photo.

    Good luck!

  3. This sounds like a great camera but I think I would be useless with it. I've got a mirrorless camera from sony and I'm still not using it to it's full potential x

  5. Lovely new camera there. I love my Canon!! I had no clue about how to use a DSLR myself when I got it but after several searches on Google around the main functions and lots of sessions just trying stuff out I seem to be getting to grips with it now. Good luck and enjoy! xx

  12. Aw, a DSLR is such a good investment for a blogger! My tip is just to get to grips with the manual mode buy finding tutorials online. At first your photos might not come out well, but with practice and as you start to understand aperture, shutter speed etc. you'll notice that the quality of your photos will sky rocket. From your blog it's clear that you are already good at composing your picture, you clearly have an eye for it, so once you get to grips with the settings your photos will look great!!

  20. I think if I were to purchase a DSLR in the future it would be a Cannon as they seem to be easier to use. I have a Nikon DSLR, and I have to say that I honestly haven't played around with the features too much. The only thing I change is to take it off of "Auto" and switch it to the "No Flash" setting, but that's pretty much how to take a photo 101 so I'm sure you already do that-haha I really wish I could learn more about my camera though!
