Apples and Brie

I was able to take the day off from work today and enjoyed the start of the Fourth of July Weekend. Work is going to be very long and very hectic again soon as my boss is going out of town for most of the upcoming months. A break was very much needed and also, well deserved. Dilshika and I grabbed our cameras and set out to adventure. We tried to find the Downtown Art District but after a few wrong turns we decided Santa Monica was more up our alley. We parked my car and headed down the streets connecting Venice and Santa Monica. The town is littered with yoga studios and raw vegan cuisines, small cafes and hippie things. 

Rather than waiting in obnoxiously long lines for the more popular lunch spots, we stopped in a smaller cafe called Kafe K. It didn't appear to be much from the outside, a simple Mom and Pop style shop. We picked two sandwiches off the menu to split and sat outside listening to the busy beach streets. The food makes this place phenomenal. We ordered the Panini with Chicken which is a simple chicken breast sandwich with grilled zucchini, arugula, and pesto balsamic vinaigrette on two slices of toasted french baguette. The bread was delicious and the sandwich was overall swell. What really blew our minds though was the second pick; the Turkey Panini. It too, was served on two slices of toasted french baguette and had turkey, brie, wild arugula, and sliced apple. Apple, turkey and brie are just the perfect combination of sweet and melted bliss. Both sandwiches were served with a side salad and all together, the small cafe has become a new favourite of ours. The rest of the day was spent wandering the streets and enjoying the town. Tomorrow is the Fourth of July and we're taking another adventure somewhere new. It's going to be a lovely weekend of memories and more importantly, good food.
