Review | Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Charade

The more I play with makeup, the better I become at choosing shades that really work for me. I have recently started looking into purchasing more single eyeshadows and investing my money into shades that I know I'll use all the time. Don't get me wrong, I love a good eyeshadow palette and am drawn to the big selection of colours that come in palette form but to be honest, sometimes I get overwhelmed with the big bulk of a palette. When Sephora's VIB Sale rolled around last month, I let myself splurge and ordered an eyeshadow duo with shades I knew would work for me.

The Nars Eyeshadow Duo in Charade comes with two shades that are described as a 'matte smokey plum' and 'muted mauve'. Plum tones really complement my green eyes so I knew right away that I would be reaching for these colours on a regular basis. The muted mauve shade is a gorgeous rosey pink tone that really highlights the lid and is great for blending. I'm always worried when buying mauve pinky tones because often my olive complexion overpowers the color payoff and just blends away. This shadow however, left me pleasantly surprised. It leaves a beautiful rosey hue without having to pack on too much color and looks natural enough to wear day to day. As for the smokey plum tone, I'm really impressed with the distinct colour of this shade. Unlike an obvious purple, this shade is more neutral and natural leaving tons of room for play. I've been packing it on for smokey eyes or lightly brushing it out to accentuate a natural eye.

The formula is creamy smooth and blends easily which really makes them worth a try. Nars shadows are pretty pricey and I'm not exactly sold on the idea of paying so much money for just two shadows. However, they're an investment piece. If you know colours work for you and you're looking to play with different brands I would definitely give them a try.

  18. What a lovely duo! I have to agree though, Nars is soooo expensive, but like you say, if they're going to be THE shades for you then you know you're going to get a lot of use and your moneys worth out of them!
