Healthy Living | Mealprepping 101 : Snacks

About two years ago I took control of my life and decided to start living a healthier and better lifestyle. Since then I have lost 95 pounds and it has become second nature to me to eat right and work out and be overall dedicated to being good to my body. I wanted to include a few new segments on my blog that had little tips and tricks that I personally found worked for me and maybe they can help for you too. One key thing that I've been sticking to for the last almost eight months now would be meal prepping. Meal prepping is basically packing and cooking all your food on one specific day for the rest of the week. My best friend and I go grocery shopping every Sunday morning and then spend a few hours in the kitchen preparing the food for our week. Containers and zip lock baggies have kind of been running my life lately. Now, when I get hungry throughout the day, I never have to go searching for food which could easily throw me off track but instead everything is already packed for me. With my busy lifestyle it's really the only way to go.

So for the first little instalment of this new series on my blog I wanted to talk about Meal Prepping Snacks. I love food. Literally my entire day revolves around food and I do not ever allow myself to go hungry. I'm constantly grubbing on something yummy. Snacks are such an important part to your day because it's those little breaks in between meals where so many people get thrown off. I make sure that I have something with me to nibble on whenever I'm feeling peckish. I try to personally calculate my caloric intake so that I'm aware of what's going into my body. It's so easy to overeat and over indulge and I think anyone who wants to start living a healthier lifestyle or is trying to lose weight the very first step would be to find out how many calories you should be taking in everyday and then calculating them throughout the day. I use an app called My Fitness Pal because it's so simple and helps me access everything on the go but you can just use a food journal or I'm sure there's other websites and apps out there that can help you add up those calories throughout the day.

For snacks, I like to always always always have some kind of baggy or container full of fruit. Some weeks we've had pineapple and orange slices or grapes and blackberries but for this week we went with a mix of seedless green grapes, raspberries and mango slices. Pretty much any fruit that's in season where you are and looks yummy would be a perfect snack to just grab and go throughout the day. Another thing I'm reaching for this week are these little Planters Nutrition Nut Mix that come in generous little packs and are only around 250 calories. Nuts are so yummy and contain vitamins and nutrients that are beneficial to your body so they're a great treat throughout the day. To finish off my snacking ways this week I included a baggy of Animal Cracks from Trader Joes. I need some kind of cracker or something crunchy and salty because that's what I personally always used to indulge on. So now I still indulge just with food that is better for me and still tastes freakin amazing. These animal crackers only have six grams of sugar and you can have 17 of them for 120 calories which is filling and the calories are still maintained. And on those days where I'm still feeling hungry I either eat more fruit or have a cup of coffee or tea to fill me up and really hit the spot.

I have tons of other go to snacks that I love to have, these are just what I'm including in my meal plan for this week. Meal prepping is something I love doing and I swear by so if you guys are interested in these types of posts and want to see more of them please please let me know. I'd love to share recipes and tips and tricks with all of you and maybe you have some to share with me too.
