Tea and Story Books | Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn

A few weeks back my best friend and I were browsing Barnes and Noble and decided to pick up a book to read together. We go for runs every night and we wanted something to talk about and discuss while we're running to keep our minds off of the silly exercise. One of the rather larger displays was dedicated to this book - Gone Girl by Gillian Flynn and after looking it up and reading some mixed reviews, we decided to try it out. I have to say this book was one of the best I've read in a very long time.

Whenever I find myself recommending this book to anybody I have such a hard time describing what it's really about without giving anything away. It's definitely a book of twists and turns and surprises that are simply written and formulated so well that if the plot ends up coming off predictable, you're still willing to sit there in awh of this author. Flynn wrote beautifully and the way she portrayed each character was articulated so brilliantly that I'm just truly amazed even now, weeks after finishing the book.

Gone Girl is told in different times and by two different people, Nick and Amy Dunne and it basically follows the story of how Amy disappeared. Nick's wife goes missing on their anniversary and no one knows where she's gone. It's a suspense thriller that really is a raw look into marriage and people and human nature and it's such a bloody roller coster. One minute you love a character and sympathise with them and the next you find yourself hating their guts. It's really just so cool and I cannot recommend it enough. Throughout the book, you're lead to discover what happened to Amy, has she been kidnapped, murdered, worse? I really can't give you more than that but goodness you need to read this book.

Not only is it a New York Times Bestseller but the movie adaptation is coming out soon which I'm really excited to see. I have a feeling the movie has no way of doing it justice but the book was just so good that I can't wait to see it play out on the big screen. If you've read the book, leave a comment down bellow telling me what you thought and maybe we can make this a little book club of our own. Trust me when I tell you, Gone Girl is a must read so go out there, pick it up, and become engulfed in the lives of Amy and Nick.

  3. I've been meaning to pick up this book for ages. I read one of her others (Scar something? The one with the self-harming protagonist anyway, it was a while ago - free kindle books with galaxy wrappers) and actually really enjoyed it despite my reservations. This one always has such fantastic reviews, I really need to get my backside into gear and pick it up!

  4. I really liked this book too - I did not guess the plot, but then heaps of my family didn't like it as they could see it from the beginning! I'm looking forward to the movie as well x
