Monthly Loving - January Favourites 2014

Last month was a month of saving and falling in love with products I already owned. I was on a pretty strict spending ban since I was preparing for my trip and therefore a lot of my January favourites are gems that I've had for quite some time. Something that was featured in my Empties post last month was the Dark Angels Cleanser. I was a ball of nerves basically the entire month of January and anytime I'm stressing out or nervous over anything, I tend to break out horribly. My skin was hating me the entire month and one of the only products that helped control it was this cleanser from Lush. I did describe it and gush over it in my previous post so I'm not going to mention too much but I will say that it is just an amazing cleanser that really does it's job and clears my pores whenever I'm in deep need of some intense pampering. Speaking of breakouts, I used the heck out of my Maybelline CoverStick last month. When I was just starting out in makeup, I was always deeply put off by green concealers. I didn't take the time to figure out their benefits but instead just found it a wacky concept and moved along. I was actually getting ready for a party and a friend of mine was using this CoverStick and it made her complexion flawless. I was definitely intrigued.  If you don't already know, using a green concealer or green colour over blemishes or any flaws cancels out the redness and really helps create an even base. As I'd mentioned, my skin was looking rough so this baby really helped make me feel more confident by reducing the appearance of redness and cancelling out those nasty splotchy areas. I would really recommend investing in one of these. This one is a cheap drugstore find but it does the job and works wonders.

So, I also forgot to mention I fell in love last month. No there is a no hunky man slave that has been taking up my time, instead there's this beautiful bottle of NARS Sheer Glow Foundation. I think literally every beauty gal I've ever chatted with gushes over this foundation and I finally picked one up and it is just beautiful. I can't even explain how wonderful this foundation is. The coverage is amazing and it has the slightest glow to it that creates such a healthy looking makeup. I love it. If you don't own this foundation, what are you waiting for? My love affair also contributed to my new little blossoming friendship with my Beauty Blender. When I first ordered this applicator, I did not get it. I just didn't understand why everyone was raving over these beauty sponges and then something just clicked. I think you really need to play with it a couple of times to really understand the magic but now I haven't been reaching for anything else. All I do is run it under the sink for a second so it's a little damp and then bounce it on my skin to create the most flawless finish every single time. I haven't been streaky, I haven't needed powders to blend it all in, I just feel confident simply using my Beauty Blender and it's wonderful. Another makeup tool I've been loving is my Real Techniques Deluxe Crease Brush. This brush is just so dang handy for blending out any makeup look. I especially love that it can blend cream eyeshadows and just use it every single day. It came with my Real Techniques Starter Set and I really wish they sold these individually because I'm sure I'd pick up one or three more in a second. They're just amazing brushes and they're super inexpensive as well!

Lastly, I have a little hair product favourite and this is my Bumble and Bumble Dryspun Finish Spray. I wrote an entire review about how this product is just lovely for adding the right amount of volume without looking silly. I really appreciate the fluff and the texture it gives my locks. It is on the pricey side and I'm going to be really bummed when this runs out and I have to break the bank to purchase another one but it just makes my thin hair so much nicer. Sometimes makeup and beauty products are so so cool and I literally sit here in wonder at what we can do and create with a few simple products. Definitely worth the purchase just close your eyes at checkout and pretend that price tag is not even there.

So those were a few of my favourites for last month. I really can't believe it's already February and I need time to slow down because I don't want to go back home. I am loving spending time with my family and friends and it's going to be so hard saying goodbye. I hope you all have a lovely February month and would love to hear what's going on in your lives.

What were some of your favourites last month? Let me know, down bellow!

  1. Lovely picks! I'm actually really interested in the Bumble and Bumble Thickening Spray because my hair is so fine, but the price tag just can't be justified at the moment, unfortunately! It's going to be staying at the top of my wish list though! x

  2. Some many lovely picks here. I love the Beauty Blender, but it's so annoying to clean? I've been having a weird time with mine but it hasn't ripped into shreds just yet! RT brushes are so lovely, I'm going to complete my collection along with getting a Sigma set- I don't have a full set of brushes yet! NARs Sheer glow and NARs Matte (even though it's not listed here) are wonderful. I love them both, I prefer NARs sheer matte over sheer glow just by a little bit though.

  14. Hmmmm. I may just need to pick up a green concealer. My spots have been pretty bad recently and it has been hell trying to cover them! The CoverGirl one sounds good, so I'll be keeping an eye out for it!
