Maybelline Colour Tattoo Review - Metallic Pomegranate and On and On Bronze

Left to Right : Metallic Pomegranate, On and On Bronze

So recently I have fallen in love with two cream eyeshadows that are just absolutely lovely. The Maybelline Colour Tattoos have been all around the beauty world this past year and although I've owned two of their more pigmented shades - Eternal Gold and Silver Strike, these two neutral bases are the new foundation to all of my eye looks. Metallic Pomegranate and On and On Bronze are pigmented, gorgeous neutrals that just work beautifully for anyone with brown, green, or hazel eyes.

I'm sure you're all familiar with the Colour Tattoos so I won't ramble on too much but I did want to do a small review on these shades. I actually only meant to pick up On and On Bronze because that was the one I'd heard so many great reviews on as an eyeshadow base and great lid colour. It is a bronze shimmery eyeshadow that really works as a beautiful base for smokey eyes or soft lid looks. I love cream eyeshadows because you get to be a little lazy with them. I like the idea of only having to dab on a bit of this creamy shadow and being done with my look but personally with On and On Bronze I can't see myself doing that. I have an olive complexion, about a NC30 in Mac and this colour alone looks really muddy and almost appears as though I have even more dark circles. It is a tad darker than my skin tone and therefore hollows out my eyes in an unattractive way when used alone. It also doesn't do anything to really enhance my natural eye colour and therefore I don't ever use this shade by itself. Don't get me wrong though, this colour is beautiful and the formula is ideal for a base however, I do think it would be nicer as an all over lid colour for someone with a lighter complexion or even darker - but if you're somewhere in the middle like me, I wouldn't recommend it for a pure eyelid colour.

As for my other pick, Metallic Pomegranate is absolutely beautiful. It is this gorgeous burgundy cranberry colour that just has insane pigmentation and really creates a striking eye look. I actually am only wearing this colour in the makeup look above and it is blended all the way out as a crease and overall lid colour. I really don't understand why more people aren't raving about this shade because it's unlike any other cream eyeshadow I have ever seen. I'm just in love with the colour and effect it has on my eye colour, the different shades of brown and red really highlight the specks of green in my hazel eyes and create a vampy, seductive look that is still appropriate for everyday wear. If you're shy around pinky tones and kind of bored with the neutral palette, I really think this colour would be an amazing investment for anyone looking to spice up their makeup look. I can also see it being amazing for any complexion and if you know anything about the Maybelline Colour Tattoos you'll know the lasting power on these babies is insane. The colour just doesn't budge, I can go to work, come home and have a sweaty work out and still find my makeup in tact. They're that good! As for application. I really think it's easiest to use my fingers when it comes to applying cream eyeshadows but when I want to get a little more product or reach those corners that my stubby fingers may now reach, I opt for the Real Techniques Detailer Brush. I am just so glad I ended up picking this colour on a whim and it just works so beautifully, I can't imagine going without it again.

The Maybelline Colour Tattoos are a raved about beauty obsession, they have amazing pigmentation and these two shades alone are just magnificent. I know tons of you have probably already fallen for On and On Bronze but I would really recommend stepping out of your comfort zone for a moment and picking up the Metallic Pomegranate shade. Both are lovely and gorgeous and I just couldn't recommend them more.

What's your favourite cream eyeshadow? Have you tried these shades? Let me know, down bellow!

  1. I'm always afraid to go for any red-ish toned eye shadows because they just don't look right on me, but I imagine it would look lovely on others, such as yourself!
